Can any open-weight models handle a decomp/recomp project yet?
Open-weight models like Opus5.5, Sol6.1, Fable, and Astra have demonstrated their capability in decompilation/recompilation projects, leading to a significant increase in activity within the scene. This progress is partly attributed to the maturation of development tools and feedback mechanisms. The community is now questioning whether larger models such as GLM 5.3-Flash, Qwen 3.8-Next-Flash, and V4.1-deepseek Flash can handle simpler projects, specifically those involving GBA and PSP ROMs, which benefit from smaller sizes and established pipelines.
This report highlights the first time multiple open-weight models, including Opus5.5 and Sol6.1, have proven capable of handling decompilation/recompilation projects, unlike earlier models.
