I had Gemini train its own replacement for $9

A user trained a replacement for Gemini for $9 to identify chef's knife brands, models, and steel types from Reddit discussions. The project involved scraping Reddit threads using TypeScript and MongoDB, then training a model with Python and PyTorch on Modal. The fine-tuned model, particularly the 459M version, showed significant improvement over a zero-shot baseline, achieving an overall F1 score of 0.904, demonstrating better performance in domain-specific vocabulary tasks.
