Something i've been struggling with lately is keeping my mental model of a project intact while using claude code heavily.
Before AI, if i built a feature myself i naturally understood most of the decisions because i had to make them.
Now i can get through several changes in a day, review the diffs, see that everything works, and still realize a week later that i don't understand that part of the system as well as i thought i did.
That's starting to feel like a real tradeoff of AI assisted development.
The obvious answer is "review the code properly", but even reviewed code doesn't stick in your head the same way as something you spent hours designing and implementing yourself.
I've started slowing down after larger changes and writing a short explanation of what changed, why it changed and what assumptions the new code depends on.
Interested in how other people are dealing with this because i don't think the solution is simply using claude less. The speed is useful. I just don't want the codebase to eventually become something i technically own but barely understand.
