Apple trains own China LLM with Alibaba, cleared by Beijing

Beijing quietly did something it has not done for any other Western tech company: it cleared a US firm to ship its own AI model inside mainland China. The interesting part is not the model itself but the permission. US tech firms have spent the last few years being told, in effect, that a non-Chinese generative model would not be allowed to reach mainland consumer users at scale.
