"The AGI I imagined was an Einstein-level intellect backed by massive compute, curing diseases, advancing science exponentially, and kicking off a whole new era for humanity."

AI summary

A Reddit user expressed disappointment that the imagined AGI, an Einstein-level intellect capable of curing diseases and advancing science, has been reduced to AI performing tasks like Blender use or booking appointments. This sentiment is echoed by Demis Hassabis's warning that tech CEOs, such as Sam Altman, have cheapened the term AGI and may soon falsely claim to possess it. A significant backlash is anticipated if these CEOs attempt to convince the public they have AGI when it is clearly not the case.

The AGI I imagined was an Einstein-level intellect backed by massive compute, curing diseases, advancing science exponentially, and kicking off a whole new era for humanity.

Instead, people see an AI messing around in Blender, computer use, or booking a haircut appointment and call it AGI.

Respect to Jensen, but his business depends on selling hardware to every AI company out there, so of course he has to play along with the AGI marketing hype.

This is so true. Demis Hassabis warned that tech CEO's like Sam Altman had cheapened the AGI term and that one of them would be announcing they had AGI very soon.

There will be a serious backlash if these CEO's try to convince the public that they have AGI when they clearly do not.
