Instead of another GPU terminal renderer, I trained a 1.26M-param model to turn TUIs (htop, vim, emacs…) into real UI components [R]
A developer trained a 1.26M-parameter model, an axial transformer, to convert Terminal User Interfaces (TUIs) like htop, vim, and emacs into actual UI components. This model, weighing 5 MB, assigns one of 15 roles (e.g., border, title, menu item, selected row, table, input, status bar, key hint) to each cell. The project includes a write-up, demo, code, labels, and results, available at drksci.com/labs-phosphene and github.com/drksci/phosphene.
Unlike traditional GPU terminal renderers, this project uses a 1.26M-parameter model to interpret TUI elements as UI components, offering a different approach to terminal interaction.
