OpenAI to start showing ads on ChatGPT’s free and Go tiers in India

OpenAI is set to introduce advertisements on its free and ChatGPT Go tiers in India. This move follows significant efforts to expand its user base in the country, including launching a sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan in August 2025, offering a year-long free promotion for that tier, and extensive advertising during major sports tournaments like the WPL and IPL. OpenAI also recently hired Uber's India head to spearhead its expansion initiatives.
