Google DeepMind today announced SynthID Bio to watermark and detect AI-designed proteins
Google DeepMind has introduced SynthID Bio, a new technology designed to watermark and detect AI-designed proteins. This development, detailed in a technical paper in nature, allows for the identification of proteins created by artificial intelligence. Early lab tests indicate that watermarked proteins function identically to their non-watermarked counterparts. While promising, the research is still in its nascent stages, and challenges remain, such as ensuring the watermark cannot be easily removed and clarifying that its presence does not guarantee a protein's safety.
This marks the first time Google DeepMind has extended its SynthID watermarking technology from images to biological data like AI-designed proteins.
