I measured what happens when a coding agent reads the same file repeatedly

A developer observed that a coding agent, specifically in Claude Code sessions, repeatedly reads the same files. To investigate this, they experimented with a local tool called sqz. Their measurements showed that each subsequent read of the same file by the agent consumed approximately 2,000 tokens, indicating a consistent token cost for repeated access.
