AI Development is Going Exactly as Many Expected It Would A Few Short Years Ago
AI development has progressed largely as predicted by optimistic observers in recent years, contrasting with those who remain in denial about AI and Large Language Models (LLMs). A layperson following this progress believes AI will soon surpass human intelligence, training itself and achieving feats that skeptics in 2026 might deem impossible. This technology is seen as a significant and real advancement.

I don't have much of a point in this but as a layperson who has followed AI development over the last two or three years, AI development has pretty much followed the predictions of people who were bullish/optimistic on AI growth only a few short years ago. This is in contrast to people who have more or less lived and continue to live in a state of denial about AI and LLMs.
Just a few of the general propositions that I remember from a few years ago.
1.) AI would never be able to do or be good at math.
2.) Images and videos generated by AI would always look fake.
3.) LLMs would never be capable of replacing skilled white collar work.
4.) AI would never be able to competently program without human oversight.
5.) Autonomous AI agents wouldn't be possible.
And etc etc. The list goes on and all of these predictions are being debunked and proven wrong on a daily basis. AI is now solving low hanging scientific and mathematical problems on a daily basis. AI image and video is increasingly indistinguishable from real media. Programming, autonomy, etc.
It's pretty clear that AI will soon surpass human intelligence. I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing. Make your own opinion. But as a layperson, it is clear to me that this technology is the real deal. Soon it will be training itself and doing things that people in denial in 2026 claim is impossible.
