Gemini 4 is almost ready, says new Google DeepMind chief

Google DeepMind's new chief announced that Gemini 4 is almost ready. This comes after Google's last flagship AI model, the Gemini 3 series, was released in November 2025. Since then, OpenAI’s GPT-6 and Anthropic’s Mythos series models have launched, outperforming Gemini 3 and giving rivals a lead. A promised Gemini 3.5 Pro update in June to bridge this gap was never rolled out.

This announcement marks the first time a Google DeepMind chief has publicly acknowledged the readiness of Gemini 4, unlike previous unfulfilled promises regarding Gemini 3.5 Pro.
