AI is good at producing a first draft and bad at knowing what to throw away
AI tools excel at generating initial drafts quickly, providing a usable structure in seconds, which is genuinely helpful. However, their value significantly diminishes beyond this stage. The more challenging aspect of writing or design, such as discerning what to omit, what to cut, or identifying the most crucial angle, requires judgment that AI models lack. This is because AI models do not have a vested interest in the outcome or an understanding of the specific audience, making them weak at critical editing decisions.
This user's daily experience suggests that AI's value is almost entirely in the first draft, unlike the more complex editing and judgment phases where human input remains crucial.
