Memory on Claude.ai not scoped to projects anymore?

Users are reporting a significant change in Claude.ai's memory management. Previously, memory was scoped to individual projects, with a separate file-based general memory. Now, project memories have been converted to the same file-based system as the general memory. This change means Claude can read all memories, including those from other projects and the general memory, even when operating within a specific project. However, Claude can only write to the memory associated with the current project.
