OpenAI announces three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
OpenAI announced three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics, focusing on harmonic analysis, complexity theory, and quantum field theory. Their AI models produced a natural language proof for Yang–Mills existence on September 9th, 2026, and for QCD on September 18th, 2026. The AI output on October 18th, 2026, was formalized in Lean the next day. Following expert recommendations, OpenAI publicly released both an AI natural language output writeup and a Lean proof in their public GitHub repository.
