Fable: who is going to pay for API?
So.. some have run out already, everyone will run out on subscription tomorrow.
I am thinking about API payment for special cases. Yes. It was good. Just read that polymarkets also said GPT 5.6 is delayed, so..
I will probably not pay API though because of
a) being cheap and
b) I dont want to teach Anthropic and other vendors that I like this sort of behavior. After all this might become common practice. Of course Fable 5.1 (or whatever) would be just better. Maybe not as impressive, but better, and then even more "worth" it.
I assume there will be a reasonable amount of people (3-10% of users), e. g. with small business, who could afford API and are very seriously considering it now too, while being fine with subscription so far.
Also 2 more thoughts:
1) I did not see any capacitiy issues with Fable at all. 0. Nothing. Better than 2 weeks ago with constant API errors making the plan totally unusable.
2) if there were capacity issues and if they wanted to milk API from businesses and professionals (or who considers themselves to be a professional) while still caring about subscribers they could e. g.
- give Fable on the weekends so it is mainly only for hobbyists.
- decrease limits again to something that works for everyone. At current limits you could still get maybe 2-3 days of full Fable with 1 session out of the 200 plan based on weekly usage.
