Google is killing off Gemini’s Gems in favor of ‘skills’

Google is discontinuing its "Gems" feature within Gemini, which allowed users to create custom AI assistants. This change comes as all-in-one AI agents like Meta’s Muse and Instinct gain traction. Existing Gems will not be lost; instead, they will be automatically migrated to a new format called "skills" starting November 17, 2026. These skills will be usable across various AI tasks, and users will not need to take any action for the transition.
