In auto mode, your nested CLAUDE.md files are probably not being loaded

A user discovered that nested CLAUDE.md files in a monorepo might not be loading in auto mode, based on analyzing 480 main sessions and 1,200 subagent transcripts. An undocumented switch, "env": {"CLAUDE_CODE_THRIFTY_SONIC": "0"} in settings.json, found in the 2.1.271 binary, reportedly removes the Bash-first instruction and maintains auto mode, potentially addressing the issue, though its stability across releases is uncertain.
