Tried Claude/AI for the first time

AI 摘要

A user with limited coding experience, having only a semester or two of online Javascript and HTML in high school, tried Claude/AI for the first time after seeing articles about AI-created gaming mods and patches. They were amazed by the AI's capabilities, noting that with just a few prompts, they created a prototype, fixed major issues, and even generated multiple colored versions of an item, inferring appropriate dye drops. The user is now porting a mod from Java to Bedrock, impressed by the AI's research, problem-solving, and autonomous execution.

After the sheer number of articles I have been seeing in the realm of gaming about new mods coming out, or people using AI to create their own patches (the Oblivion Remaster 40% performance improvement patch someone vibe coded, for example), I finally decided to give it a try. For context, the only coding experience I have is a semester or two of an online coding class back in high school where I learned a bit of Javascript and HTML.

I decided to try making a minor Minecraft mod for Bedrock edition, because of my extensive experience playing with (but not creating) mods for Minecraft, so I should theoretically recognize whether something is working right or not. I chose to create a new mob, imitating a particular red chicken called a "Rosester" from the Biomes O' Plenty mod, which drops red dye in addition to laying eggs, and places a rose on every viable block it walks on. All I did was describe the chicken itself, not even mentioning the mod it was inspired by, to see what it came up with.

HOLY CRAP! two prompts and I had a rough prototype, and a third prompt fixed the three major issues. One more prompt, and it created a blue version (a "Bluester"), and it inferred by itself that a blue chicken should drop blue dye. One more prompt, and it created 4 more colors of chickens and assigned them the proper dye colors based off of name alone, without it telling me the colors of two of the 4 chickens.

Since then I have started a new project porting a mod from Java to Bedrock, but it amazes me how well the AI is able to do research, find answers, discuss a plan with me and explain what it is going to do, and then do it all automatically.
