Google will now let any AI agent run your smart home
Google is opening its smart home platform to AI agents, allowing tools like Claude and Open Claw to access and control connected devices and analyze home data using the Model Context Protocol. This move, following the launch of API access to its smart home in 2024 and Gemini for Home, positions Google as an infrastructure layer for the smart home. This B2B2C strategy enables other companies to build consumer-facing services on Google's AI and smart home infrastructure.
Unlike previous limited integrations, Google is now allowing any AI agent, including third-party tools like Claude, to directly run smart home devices and analyze data.
