OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are reportedly collaborating to establish an AI standards body. This initiative has drawn criticism from Aiden Gomez, co-founder and CEO of Canadian AI company Cohere, who accused these dominant American AI labs of forming a "cartel" under the pretext of safety. Gomez emphasized that while the need for AI guardrails is undisputed, the core contention lies in determining who creates these rules, who participates in their development, and whose interests they ultimately serve.
