I built a news-driven world map of current conflicts with Claude Code

A developer created "Conflict Map," a website that visualizes current armed conflicts on a world map by extracting information from news articles. The project, largely built with Claude Code, utilizes a Python backend (FastAPI, SQLite), LLM extraction prompts, and a MapLibre frontend. Claude Code also assisted with debugging, identifying issues like a day/night bug and a map marker CSS bug. The site automatically extracts data, displays casualty numbers as quotes with sources, and links to original articles, acknowledging that extracted information can be incorrect.

Unlike other mapping tools, this project highlights how Claude Code assisted in building the entire application, from backend to frontend, and even debugged complex issues like an equinox-related bug.
