How do you prevent Claude Projects from drifting during a large document project?
I’m using Claude Projects to update and standardize a large library of operations protocols. Each protocol has an individual Word file and matching PDF.
Even with detailed project instructions, reference files, and only working on one protocol series per conversation, Claude gradually drifts. It changes formatting, colors, bolding, bullet alignment, tables, and document structure.
Some protocols have intentional differences, such as special warning boxes or medication-table colors, but Claude sometimes removes or changes them.
It also occasionally claims files are verified or complete when obvious errors remain.
Has anyone found a reliable way to prevent this? Do you use shorter conversations, separate projects, Claude Code, specific checkpoint files, or another workflow? I’m looking for a repeatable method, not just another large master prompt.
I am an amateur at this as well. I just don’t want to do 600 pages by hand.
