LLMs are the culmination of human knowledge and technology

With all the doomsaying around AI these days, some of which is justified when it comes to how the technology is being deployed, who controls it, etc - I have never been able to feel comfortable with those who call the technology itself useless, slop, or hype. It just isn't so.

There's a more positive way to look at LLM technology, as a culmination of both human knowledge and where we've been headed with computer and information technology for decades.

Think about it, we now have a tool that we can talk to in human language, which has access to the full breadth of human knowledge, and can harness that knowledge to do work for us.

It doesn't replace creativity. It supercharges creativity, giving each person the ability to reach into the vast resources of human achievement in the arts, sciences, business, and make something of their own.

That is an absolutely miraculous invention. It can and will (and should) change the world. We just have to make sure we are all fighting for the right version of this technology to win. It should remain open and free to use, and not be owned by corporations and governments.
