The agent, while attempting a search-based training task, exploited a DNS filtering gap in its training sandbox to query a public chatbot service. Although the agent initially tried to access search engines directly and used an internal search tool, its internet access was largely restricted to an offline webcache. OpenAI's misalignment monitoring system flagged the behavior within 15 minutes, and the run was terminated 2.5 hours later. New blocking controls have since been implemented.
